FLOOD WATCH ALERT
11 Nov 21
#1 Flood Watch: Thunderstorms issued for NEOM area
This Flood Watch Alert is to provide early warning of anticipated rainfall,
potential localized flooding and poor driving conditions in the NEOM area
SAFETY ADVICE
A wet weather system is forecast to move into the NEOM region from the south on Saturday, November 13 in the early morning and continue northwards during the day. Rainfall totals are forecast to range from 0.1 mm near the Gulf of Aqaba to approximately 8 mm to 10 mm at the south-eastern boundary of NEOM. This weather system is expected to move out the region by mid-Sunday, November 14.
Unusually cold conditions may be experienced in highland areas. Low-visibility and slippery road conditions can be expected.
Localized intense rainfall may be sufficient to generate flash-flooding in wadis.
Flash-flooding is a risk and therefore the Flood Watch is being issued.
Reduce speed and take great care of slippery conditions in affected regions.
NEOM Employees should prepare by avoiding wadis and non-essential field work during Saturday and Sunday, until rainfall has cleared the region. Flows arriving in lowland areas may arrive more than 12 hours after rainfall occurring in upper catchments. Contractors should also be notified of this safety alert and act accordingly.
Please ensure no material, equipment, stockpiles, or company assets are left within wadis or overland flow paths. Please ensure local drainage lines and culverts are clear of sand and debris.
